German Brand and Design Congress 2012.

This year’s German Brand and Design Congress will take place in Offenbach on 29-30 November 2012 and will be about “Brand Management for Capital Goods”. Capital goods exports still represents one of Germany’s most important economic and competitive strengths. It is therefore essential for the sector to formulate clear characteristics through strategic design and brand policies that differentiates it from the international competition. How to successfully realize this is the topic at the German Brand and Design Congress 2012. The speakers deal with the interface between capital goods production, technical design, engineering and brand management and prepare the subject in a practically oriented way for the target group of small and medium sized companies. The German Brand and Design Congress is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Hessen Ministry of Economics, Transport and Regional Development and supported with funds from the European Regional Development Fund.




European Design Innovation Summit.

On 17 September 2012 the European Design Leadership Board (EDLB) presented the report “Design for Growth and Prosperity” to Antonio Trajani, Vice President of the EU Commission, during the European Design Innovation Summit in Helsinki. The report includes 21 detailed proposals for the European Commission regarding the better use of design as a driving force for growth in Europe and as a competitive tool. Architecture for Brands: Retail Design – Friends at the Point of Sale.

The German Design Council invites you to its conference Retail Design – Friends at the Point of Sale on 18 October 2012 in Frankfurt. The conference series Architecture for Brands has taken place in each of the past ten years. Experts from companies and agencies offer insights into their customer retention strategies, present new retail design concepts and discuss current developments. Interior Innovation Award call for papers now online.

The Interior Innovation Award is considered one of the most renowned design awards in the interior industry worldwide. Companies can register for the competition by 7 November 2012 with products from the furniture, outdoor products, bathroom and wellness, office and workspace, building equipment, walls, flooring, ceiling, kitchen and household, lamps and textiles. Paperworld 2013. Asia Design Excellence.

Asia Design Excellence is a special show presenting the most recent developments of innovative brands and products from Asia to visitors with an interest in design. Asian companies from the stationary and paper industry can apply for participation in the show until 26 October 2012 with products that stand out due to high-quality design and innovation. Trend-Dossier zum Kontext Design und Elektromobilität.

Automotive Brand Contest 2012. The Magazine.

BraunPrize 2012.

The BraunPrize 2012 focuses on products with good design that help improve our day-to-day lives. The BraunPrize 2012 seeks solutions and product ideas that add to a more reasonable and better design of our everyday environment – product concepts that display a sensible handling of topical issues as innovations and in their technology and design – e.g. sustainability, health and pleasure, the aging society, mobility and individuality. The next event in the series Design & Company will take place on 30 October 2012. The one-day German workshop entitled “Using the Facebook fan page for marketing” will be about using the Facebook fan page to communicate with customers and target groups. Focus Open 2012.

The winners of the Focus Open 2012 International Design Award Baden-Württemberg will be announced on 12 October 2012 at the Design Center Stuttgart. This year’s winners of the Mia Seeger Prize for young designers will be honored at the same event. The accompanying exhibition is on show until 25 November 2012. James Dyson Award 2012. The winner.

Adrienne Finzsch, a student of industrial design at the Darmstadt University, has won the German award of the James Dyson Award 2012 for her “Emergency Airdrop” system. She participated in the international round of the James Dyson Award on 8 November 2012. The James Dyson Award is an international design competition for students in 18 countries. VDID. New Mobility Design Conference.

NeMo Conference 2012 will take place on 25 October 2012 at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. In cooperation with the Business Development Office for the Stuttgart region, the Verband Deutscher Industrie Designer Baden-Württemberg has organized a one-day conference which will deal with the mobility of the future and the tasks and opportunities of the designers. The NeMo – New Mobility Design congress unites the design sectors with the mobility industry and technologies and automobile concepts of the future. DMI Design. Management Annual 37.

The Design Management Institute will hold its “New Ambition: Delivering the Promise of Design” congress from 23-25 October 2012 in New York City. The Neue Sammlung, München presents works of architect, designer, object and film artist Stefan Wewerka (*1928) from 10 October 2012 until 3 February 2013. Designers’ Saturday.

Designer’s Saturday took place on 3-4 October 2012 in Langenthal, Switzerland. Since 1987 almost 70 national and international exhibitors have been presenting themselves and their products in the ambience of the Langenthal design industry workplaces. More information at www.designerssaturday.ch

 

Leipzig Typotage. Geld zwischen Gestaltung und Fälschung.

The 18th Leipzig Typotage takes place on 13 October 2012 at the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig under the title “Money between design and counterfeit”. This year’s subject is counterfeit money – a criminal product on one hand, but almost a work of art as well. Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. Opening of the Design collection.

The comprehensive design collection of the MKG will officially open in its own rooms on the third floor of the museum on 19 October 2012. The highlight of the presentation is the refurnishing of part of Verner Panton’s famous Spiegel cafeteria, which the Spiegel publishing group almost completely gave to the MKG. Business of Design Week 2012.

This year’s BODW will take place at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre from 3-8 December 2012. Internationally leading business and design experts will discuss the challenges of the 21st century for design and business at the design conference. This year, Mirko Borsche and Richard Sapper are among the speakers. The German Design Council once more acts as the supporting organization of the BODW. Museum für Kommunikation, Frankfurt. Tempo Tempo!

The exhibition entitled “Tempo Tempo! Im Wettlauf mit der Zeit” (“Tempo Tempo! In a race against time”) deals with the question of how the awareness of time and time management has changed from the early modern era to the present. Istanbul Design Biennial.

The Istanbul Design Biennial will take place for the first time from 12 October until 12 December 2012. The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts organizes the event, which has the goal to emphasize the relevance of design for production, business, cultural interaction and the quality of life. Pop Art Design.

The Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, presents the comprehensive exhibition “Pop Art Design” until 3 February 2013 with artworks by Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein that encounter design objects by Charles & Ray Eames, Ettore Sottsass, Achille Castiglioni and many other designers of the era. Fiasco – ma non troppo. Vom Designfehler zum Fehlerdesign.

21st Design Theory Symposium of Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle takes place from 8-10 November 2012. The primary theme of the symposium this year is mistakes. Design processes are tricky and naturally prone to mistakes. Planning errors cannot be avoided in a discipline such as design. But designing then also means repairing or compensating, perhaps even optimizing the mistake in an appropriate form. Information at http://www.burg-halle.de

 

Designers & Books Fair 2012.

The Designers & Books Fair takes place from 27-28 October 2012 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. C’est pas mon genre!

From 20 October until 2 December 2012 the Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt presents the exhibition “C’est pas mon genre! ” (On Women. Design from France). Within the framework of the Culture Days of the European Central Bank (ECB) a different country in the European Union is the focus each year. After innovative design approaches from the Netherlands were presented in 2010, the exhibition “C’est pas mon genre!” takes a look at current movements in French design. Frame Moooi Award 2013.

International interior and product designers, architects and creative worldwide can apply for the Frame Moooi Award 2013 until 1 December 2012. The submitted projects must have been realized between 1 January 2011 and 1 September 2012. The award is endowed with 25,000 euro. All about the competition and registration at www.framemoooi.com

 

MfG-Award 2012.

19 competition works will be awarded the MfG-Award of the Bundesverband Druck und Medien in Wiesbaden. The jury selected the winners from a total of 230 submissions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. More information at www.mfg-award.de

 

Bruno Munari: My Futurist Past.

The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, London, presents an exhibition about the work of Bruno Munaris (1907-1998) until 23 December 2012. He was one of the pioneers in the evolution towards 20th century design and art. Munari himself described the root of his works as his “FuturistPast”.
