The established institution of German design. In its 60-year-long history, the German Design Council has made a significant contribution to the promotion of the value and significance of design as well as the key role it plays within the country’s economy. Now it is celebrating its anniversary with a diverse programme of events, evoking 60 years of design culture in Germany.

Iconic Awards 2013 – The whole world of architecture

It is a first in the history of such competitions. With the Iconic Awards, the German Design Council is initiating the first international architecture and design competition that acknowledges how the two disciplines interact with each other.

All clear for round three: Register now for the Automotive Brand Contest 2013!

Think of design and there is no ignoring the major automobile marques. They embody the perfect combination of form and function, communications and brand design. Yet there is only one single neutral and international design competition in which the best of the automobile sector can really compete with one another: the Automotive Brand Contest organized by the German Design Council.
Now the starting gun has been fired for the third round of the successful competition. Firms from the automobile and automotive components industry, design and brand agencies but also imported marques have until 10 May to register for the Automotive Brand Contest 2013.

Design Plus powered by ISH: competition recognises 34 outstanding products

Good design always stands out – whether because of its successful concept, the choice of material or its innovative functionality. This is evidenced once again by the winning products in the Design Plus powered by ISH competition, which have been singled out in the run up to the world's leading trade fair for innovative bathroom design, sustainable sanitation solutions and environmentally friendly building services engineering. The eminent panel of adjudicators has selected 34 products from amongst the almost 200 submissions from 16 countries as being of particularly outstanding merit. These products will be on show at ISH in a special exhibition in the Foyer to Hall 4.2 from 12 to 16 March 2013. The award ceremony will take place there at 2:0 p.m. on the opening day of the trade fair. Once again, the German Design Council has overseen the organisation and smooth running of the competition.

Siren Elise Wilhelmsen wins the German Design Award Newcomer 2013

The winner of the Newcomer category of the German Design Award 2013 has been announced: Norwegian product designer Siren Elise Wilhelmsen has been selected to receive the international premium prize from the German Design Council. The announcement was made at the award ceremony held at the opening of the consumer goods trade fair Ambiente in Frankfurt. The other finalists included communication designers Katja Baumann and Kim Angie Cicuttin and product designers Hanna Krüger and Stephan Schulz. This year also saw the bestowal of the first ever Public’s Choice Award. The online vote, with around 20,000 votes, went to the packaging design for the Monkey 47 – Schwarzwald Dry Gin bottle.

Interior Innovation Award 2013: The Winners

Anyone prioritizing furniture and furnishing design will create real added brand value. This is demonstrated not least by the 15 outstanding products that have emerged as the prize-winners at the Interior Innovation Award – Best of Best 2013 ceremony held on the occasion of the opening event for the imm cologne. Moreover, in the [D3] Contest the Interior Innovation Award – Best of Best 2013 was likewise bestowed on three young international designers for their superb prototypes.
