YOUNG DESIGNERS MEET THE INDUSTRY | YDMI 2011 goes Hong Kong

 

For ten days from November 25 to December 3, ten up-and-coming designers are to visit Asia’s leading design and brand forum Business of Design Week (BODW) and the specialist trade fair Inno Design Tech Expo. There are product designers Kai Linke, Yi-Cong Lu, Eva Marguerre, Agnes Morguet, Marko Müller, Florian Schmid and Christoph Thetard and communication designers Katja Baumann, Maria Fischer and Martina Morth will be representing up-and-coming German design. The young professionals can look forward to a diverse program and the unique opportunity to present themselves and their work to a wide international audience at one of the most important brand and design events in Asia. Dinners, receptions and workshops will offer the young designers plenty of opportunities to network with companies and designers. In the context of the German presentation at the specialist trade fair Inno Design Tech Expo (IDTE), the ten participants will each exhibit one of their products or projects.The Asian focus of the YDMI program was inspired by the German cooperation with the BODW/IDTE, Asia’s leading design and brand forum in Hong Kong. As this year’s partner country, Germany will present itself under the motto “Brand New Germany” from December 1 to 3, 2011 in Asia as a country of innovative design and attractive brands.

The ten Young Professionals will be officially welcomed and introduced to their mentors, ten up-and-coming designers from Hong Kong, at the opening night of the Business of Design Week's fringe program held at "deTour".

The new-blood designers from Hong Kong will take the Young Professionals on a sightseeing tour of their city. In the evening, the Young Professionals will introduce themselves and their work briefly at the deTour Pecha Kucha Night. The presentations will be discussed with the audience at the party afterwards.

 

 

YDMI WORKSHOP

During the two workshop days at deTour, led by Saskia Diez (www.saskia-diez.de) and Stefan Diez (www.stefan-diez.com), the ten Young Professionals will develop an installation on the theme of USE LESS together with the budding designers from Hong Kong. The results of the workshop will be presented to deTour visitors at a reception on November 28.

 


YDMI SHOW AND PORTFOLIO SHOW

The YDMI Show, at which the selected YDMI Young Professionals get to exhibit a project or product of their preference, opens at the Inno Design Tech Expo.

At the YDMI Portfolio Show in the Brand New Germany Forum the Young Professionals will present themselves and their work to visitors and exhibitors on up to 15 slides in the space of three minutes. Illustrating the way in which they work or specific projects, they will relate how they themselves see their designs.

The official German reception will take place at the Brand New Germany trade fair stand that evening.

 

 

BODW DESIGN CONFERENCE AND YDMI WORKSHOPS

The Full Pass will enable the Young Professionals to partake in the high-caliber lecture program hosted by the BODW Design Conference.

On the evening of December 2, the ten Young Professionals will attend the BODW's official gala dinner, which will give them the opportunity to mix and mingle with exhibitors and conference participants.

The speakers at the YDMI Workshops, led this year by Reinhard Dienes (Designer, reinharddienes studio, www.reinharddienes.com), Hagen Fendler (Chief Designer, Huawei Device Company, www.huaweidevice.com), Sebastian Herkner (Designer, Studio Sebastian Herkner, www.sebastianherkner.com) and Anne Thiesen (Managing Director, Anne Thiesen Limited Hong Kong, www.annethiesen.com.hk), will present by way of case studies a number of topics specifically related to design exclusively to the selected Young Professionals.

 

The experts will also be available to discuss individual questions.
