The transformation of building requires a holistic approach

Architecture must understand sustainability not as an isolated metric, but as a multi-layered process of consideration. It is about thinking beyond CO₂ equivalents and carrying out a holistic assessment: What resources are really needed? How can buildings be designed intelligently and sustainably? In addition to the environmental impact, the social context, space efficiency and quality of use also play a decisive role.

Honesty and working in dialogue are key skills

Modern architecture requires the courage to admit uncertainties and to develop solutions together with all those involved. Not perfect answers are required, but an open, transparent process. The ability to moderate complexity, find compromises and realise step-by-step improvements is becoming more important than the demand for immediate perfection.

Dealing with existing buildings is becoming a key challenge

The future of construction does not lie in new builds, but in the creative transformation of existing buildings. The aim is to recognise potential, rethink spaces and develop flexible usage concepts. Instead of rigid room programmes, improvising, context-aware solutions are required - with the aim of meeting actual needs and using resources sensibly.
