HSUD 2026: Submit Your Entry Now!
What does design need to look like to benefit as many people as possible? Under the theme "Design for All", submissions for the Hessian State Prize for Universal Design2026 are open until 14 August 2026.
Awarded every two years across Germany, the prize honours products, concepts, projects and technologies that make everyday life more accessible and easier for as many people as possible, regardless of age, background or individual abilities. Eligible applicants include companies, start-ups, non-profit organisations, as well as students and graduates of design-related degree programmes. The competition is organised and managed by the German Design Council.
In addition to awards in the Company and Emerging Talent categories, the jury will award a total of €7,000 in prize money in the Emerging Talent category. The awards ceremony will take place on 13 November 2026 at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.
New this year is a partnership with Hessen Design e.V., which will select outstanding student entrants for a mentoring programme as part of the Hessen Design Competition. Experienced experts in fields including brand development, design management, industrial design, user experience, materials and technology, and sustainability will support the young designers in developing their projects further and positioning themselves professionally.
The competition also forms part of a landmark year for the state of Hesse. As World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, the region will attract international attention from the global design community. Coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the state of Hesse, the Hessian State Prize for Universal Design demonstrates how design can contribute to greater inclusion and strengthen social cohesion.
