Our team of permanent editors, freelance authors and podcast hosts embodies journalistic curiosity, creative thinking and professional expertise, showcasing design as a driving force in business and society.

Katharina de Silva

Editor-in-Chief Design Perspectives
Katharina de Silva has been Editor-in-Chief at the German Design Council since 2024, initially working with ndion and subsequently with Design Perspectives. She studied German language and literature, as well as journalism, at the University of Mainz. After completing a journalism traineeship, she worked as a senior editor and content expert at various publishing houses and agencies for over ten years. She also writes freelance articles on design, art, and culture for online and print magazines.

Silke Bücker

Freelance journalist for fashion, sustainability and brand staging
Silke Bücker works as a freelance journalist, communications consultant and lecturer in Cologne. She specialises in fashion, sustainability and brand staging. She was editor-in-chief of the trade magazine TM Textilmittelungen and designed brand appearances for clients such as Hanro, Armedangels and Bogner under the umbrella of her agency Modebureau Silke Bücker. She writes for trade and lifestyle media and teaches at the AMD in Düsseldorf.

Thomas Edelmann

Freelance journalist for design and design history
Thomas Edelmann was born in 1963 and lives and works in Hamburg, Germany. He is interested in the design aspects of mobility as well as historical topics and current developments in circular design. A career changer, he started writing about cars, graphic and product design. He is particularly interested in designers who work in more than one field. From 1996 to 2001 he was editor-in-chief of design report magazine, which was published until 2019. Today he teaches design theory and history at the AMD Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg.

Andrea Eschbach

Freelance journalist for design
Andrea Eschbach was born in Mannheim in 1964. The art historian began her career as a design journalist, editing the design magazine Form. She has lived in Zurich since 2001. She writes about living and space, design and architecture for Swiss and international consumer and specialist magazines and publishers.

Karianne Fogelberg

Design theorist and curator
Karianne Fogelberg teaches, writes and thinks about design. In her work, the design theorist and curator explores the role of design in transformation and innovation processes in the context of current social issues, theoretical debate and contemporary design practice. Her writings spans from academic writing to expert analysis for trade media to longreads for general interest media. She is co-founder of the Munich-based studio UnDesignUnit.

Julia Gundelach

Freelance journalist for marketing and brand markenführung
Julia Gundelach is a freelance journalist who writes mainly about marketing, brand management and advertising. She works for several renowned German-language magazines, online portals and blogs. She also supports her clients by writing texts for websites, social media or brochures and occasionally proofreads. Julia Gundelach studied business administration, majoring in marketing, and later completed a traineeship and several internships, including at Bunte.de and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. She lives and works in Munich.

Florian Heilmeyer

Freelance journalist for architecture, society and city
Florian Heilmeyer, born in 1974, lives and works primarily in Berlin. He studied architecture in Berlin and Rotterdam and now works as a critic, journalist, editor, consultant and curator in the field of architecture, society and urbanism. He writes for trade and daily newspapers worldwide, is the editor and co-editor of numerous specialist books and has been involved in numerous exhibitions, including twice in the German contribution to the Architecture Biennale in Venice. He is currently accompanying the exhibition ‘Umbau’ by Gerkan Marg and Partners on its world tour.

Dr. Oliver Herwig

Freelance journalist, author and presenter
Dr. Oliver Herwig, journalist and presenter. Design expert for AD, FR, FAZ QUARTERLY, nomad, ndion, NZZ and SZ; design theorist at the University of Art and Design Linz and the HfG Karlsruhe. Winner of the Karl Theodor Vogel Prize for outstanding technical journalism and the COR Prize for ‘Living and Design’. Has worked and studied in England, the USA and Norway. He has been a science journalist in Tübingen, guest editor at *wallpaper in London, and editor-in-chief at nomad. Author of around three dozen books on architecture and design, including Michele De Lucchi, Flying Buildings and Entertainment Architecture.

Markus Hieke

Freelance journalist and author of interior/product design and architecture
Markus Hieke is a freelance journalist and author specialising in interior/product design and architecture. With a background in communication design, he started writing in 2013 and has since established himself in renowned German and international trade and consumer media. His mission is to make design accessible to a broad audience through portraits, interviews and background reports on protagonists and topics ranging from craftsmanship to circularity, even when they are out of the limelight.

Jasmin Jouhar

Freelance journalist for design and architecture
Jasmin Jouhar is a freelance journalist based in Berlin, Germany. Her areas of expertise include design and brands, architecture and interior design. She writes for various German-language trade and general media, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the online platform Baunetz and the magazines Schöner Wohnen and AD. She also presents industry events and is responsible for corporate publishing projects. Jasmin Jouhar is committed to promoting young design through coaching, workshops and lectures.

Martina Metzner

Freelance journalist for design and sustainability
Martina Metzner is a design and architecture journalist with a focus on socio-ecological transformation. For her, good design and sustainability go hand in hand. After studying journalism, Italian philology and psychology, she worked in editorial departments for eleven years, first at TextilWirtschaft and then at Stylepark. Since 2018, she has been working as a freelancer for leading trade and consumer magazines and is head of the editorial team at the German Design Club.

Fabian Peters

Freelance writer for architecture
Fabian Peters studied Art History and Communication Science at the University of Münster. He earned his doctorate there with a thesis on the early work of the architect and designer Peter Behrens. He then worked as an editor and editor-in-chief for various architecture and design magazines. He now works as a freelance architecture and design journalist in Berlin.

Armin Scharf

Freelance journalist for design and innovative technologies
Armin Scharf is an engineer and has been working as a freelance journalist for many years. He focuses primarily on the technical side of design, innovative technologies, new processes and material-related topics. His articles appear in print and online media such as brand eins, NZZ, VDI Nachrichten, Hochparterre, md and ndion. He also interviews companies and agencies for the Design Centre Baden-Württemberg, supports design studios in communication matters and creates corporate books.

Gerrit Terstiege

Freelance journalist and author
Gerrit Terstiege, born in 1968, lives and works in Mülheim/Ruhr. He studied under Michael Erlhoff and Gui Bonsiepe at the Cologne International School of Design (KISD) and the Glasgow School of Art, among others. He then worked for the magazine form from 1997 to 2012, becoming editor-in-chief in 2006. He has published three books with Birkhäuser Verlag, including ‘The Making of Design’ and ‘Graphic Spaces’. He has taught as a lecturer and visiting professor at Swiss and German universities since 1998. He is editor-in-chief of the Rams Foundation.

Thomas Wagner

Freelance journalist for design theory and history
Thomas Wagner was born in 1955 and studied German and Philosophy in Heidelberg and Brighton (Sussex). While still a student, he began working as an art critic and freelance journalist. From 1986 he wrote for the art section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, where he was chief editor for visual arts and design from 1991 to 2007. He then continued to work as a freelance author, art critic and columnist. Wagner published an online magazine for Stylepark and was editor of the German Design Council’s design report magazine. He is currently online journalist for ndion. Wagner has also taught as a visiting, guest and honorary professor and was a founding member of the DGTF (German Society for Design Theory and Research). He has served on numerous juries and continues to be active in the field.

Dr. Saskia Diehl is a brand strategist, managing director of gmk Markenberatung and jury member of the German Brand Award. As a thought leader in brand management, she helps numerous international clients to manage their brands and portfolios efficiently. She specialises in brand-driven transformation, creating real change by focusing on the brand and translating it into inspiring experiences. This includes everything from AI-supported brand development and implementation to sustainable brand controlling.

Moritz Marder

Podcast Host Design Perspectives
Moritz Marder is an industrial designer with many years of experience designing products, services and brands. Having worked in the automotive industry and at the product design agency Phoenix Design, as well as serving as Head of Global Design at Viessmann, he went on to lead the design consultancy at PwC as Design Lead Germany. He now works independently with medium-sized and start-up companies, developing products and processes that closely align with user needs. Alongside his practical work, he has taught at the Berlin University of the Arts for several years.

Martin Pauli

Podcast Host Design Perspectives
Martin Pauli is Director of Global Circular Economy Services at Arup, an international consulting and planning firm. In this role, he develops circular economy-based corporate and product strategies for leading construction companies in Europe and around the world. He sits on the Circular Construction Committee of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and regularly delivers keynote speeches and guest lectures on innovation and sustainability in the built environment.

Philipp Thesen

Podcast Host Design Perspectives
Philipp Thesen is a designer and strategy consultant who also teaches human-system interaction at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. As head of the Human Factors Lab, he conducts research into digital technologies and human needs. He previously held the position of Head of Design at Deutsche Telekom, where he was responsible for strategy, product design, and the global implementation of design principles. He is the founder of the strategy consultancy Prenew and advises international companies, institutions and governments on using design in transformation processes. He is also an author, keynote speaker and member of numerous design juries.
