More than Human: Designing with Nature

News0Exhibition
What happens when design is no longer intended for humans alone? The touring exhibition ‘More than Human – Designing with Nature’ is now on display in Zurich, showing how design incorporates plants, animals and entire ecosystems. And why this fundamentally changes our idea of the future.

The exhibition ‘More than Human – Design with Nature’ from the Design Museum London will be on display at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich from 30 January to 31 May 2026. It is curated by Justin McGuirk and Rebecca Lewin (Future Observatory) in collaboration with Damian Fopp.

Around 30 projects from the fields of design, art and architecture show how design incorporates plants, animals and entire ecosystems and no longer places humans at the sole centre. The starting point is the conviction that human activities are only sustainable if they are in harmony with other species and natural systems.

Design Beyond Humans

The exhibition is divided into three chapters: Being Landscape, Making with the World, Shifting Perspective. It brings together projects that think beyond human design. On display are artistic reflections, regenerative materials, ecological infrastructure and visionary concepts for the sustainable coexistence of all life forms. Design should not only function, but also take responsibility for the entire ecological structure.
