Sustainability as a Key Material Property

On 18 September 2025, we were guests at BASF’s Creation Center in Ludwigshafen, where designers, engineers, innovation and sustainability managers, as well as material experts, engaged in dialogue. The keynote by Alex Horisberger (Senior Design Consultant, BASF) provided innovative perspectives on plastics and their design potential, followed by a panel talk. The discussion highlighted the complexity and challenges of sustainability in design – and how crucial clear commitment and passion are for driving real change.

The final tour through the Creation Center allowed Design Insights participants to experience how material expertise and design perspectives intertwine at BASF through numerous examples.
