A Sky Full of Hope: Artist Talk

News0Exhibition
As part of the World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026 initiative, the Department of Culture and Science of the City of Frankfurt am Main has commissioned a new piece of public art from American artist Janet Echelman.

Echelman is one of the world's most prominent artists working in public spaces. She is renowned for her monumental, poetic net sculptures, also known as 'aerial sculptures', which constantly change in response to wind, light and architecture, transforming entire urban spaces into 'living sculptures'.

Starting in July, her large-scale installation A Sky Full of Hope will be on display above the Konstablerwache. This colourful, immersive artwork will span one of the busiest and most polarising locations in Frankfurt's city centre. It symbolises openness, diversity, international solidarity, cooperation and adaptability.

In the run-up to the event, Janet Echelman will discuss the development of the Frankfurt project and her artistic practice with Anna Scheuermann on Friday 27 February 2026 from 1 pm to 2 pm at the WDC Hub of the Museum Angewandte Kunst. The conversation will focus on the power of art in public spaces today and its potential to inspire change at the Konstablerwache.

The conversation will be held in English and is open to the public.
Admission is free.
