David Bowie Centre Opens at the Victoria and Albert Museum
The David Bowie Centre is both a working archive and an exhibition space: nine thematic sections reveal little-known material, unrealised projects and Bowie’s self-staging between Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane. For its launch, musician and Bowie collaborator Nile Rodgers, together with Brit Award winners The Last Dinner Party, will curate a selection of studio photographs, lyric drafts and costumes.
Archive as workshop
The scope is wide-ranging: alongside iconic outfits, handwritten lyrics and design sketches, the displays highlight Bowie’s fascination with technology, his collaborations and his impact on popular culture – including ideas for projects that never came to fruition.
In addition to the main exhibition, visitors can book individual appointments to view selected objects one-to-one: from stage costumes to instruments. In this way, the centre becomes a workshop for research, teaching and fan perspectives alike.
