Exhibition at the Dutch Design Week 2024

At the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, the German Design Graduates will present 21 selected projects by graduates from renowned German universities, running from 19 to 27 October 2024.
Under the title “The Magic Touch: Designing Togetherness,” the exhibition features young talents from the field of product design, highlighting the pioneering role of design from different perspectives. ‘Through the exhibition as part of Dutch Design Week, we want to showcase the diversity of design at German universities in an international context,’ says Lutz Dietzold, CEO of the German Design Council. The exhibition focuses on the topic of “touch” as a central component of social interaction.
„Who would we be without others? Who would we be without their knowledge, feelings, and touch?”
ask curators Nina Sieverding and Anton Rahlwes.
“We need the experiences and perceptions of others to move forward and create something new,” say the two designers, who co-founded the online magazine “the thing Magazine”, describing the need for collaboration in design. With the exhibition, they aim not only to offer a sensory experience, but also highlight the links between different areas of design and emphasise its interdisciplinary nature. Unlike other exhibitions, the exhibits should not be untouchable, but conceptual and directly tangible: The gap between object and viewer is eliminated.
The interaction with exhibits fosters a deep understanding not only of the designed objects, but also of the world and the individual. “Mutual perception and the understanding it creates is an opportunity to bring companies, designers and users together – a crucial approach for the further development of our society,” emphasises Lutz Dietzold, highlighting the social relevance of the German Design Graduates exhibition. “This is the only way to truly understand problems and find real solutions.”

Anton Rahlwes and Nina Sieverding founded the digital platform the thing Magazine in 2023. There, and in their newsletter "something is missing," they critically report on design, trends, and aesthetics. In addition to their journalistic work, they teach at various art and design universities and are also involved in curatorial activities.
