German Design Awards 2025

Submission start

It's that time again - the big German Design Awards are entering the next round and opening its registration and submission portal. Every year, the internationally recognised Design Awards honour top-class submissions from the fields of product and communication design as well as architecture.

Focus on circular design
Starting this year, companies and designers can submit their projects in an additional category called "Circular Design". This category recognises particularly innovative solutions that implement the current objectives of the circular economy and provide inspiring impulses.

New category – AI
To visualise pioneering developments in architecture through the influence of artificial intelligence and digital design methods, designers and developers can submit projects, service designs and virtual architectures in the "AI in Architecture and Metaverse Space Design" category from this year onwards.

Collaborations in Design

We are delighted to be part of the global community of the Cumulus Association. The organisation sees itself as a dynamic ecosystem that promotes knowledge exchange and collaboration in art and design, as well as research and practice. Our membership was approved by the Board at the "Preferences in Design" conference in Budapest a few days ago, alongside other international universities and design institutions. We are contributing our international network of newcomers and are looking forward to future collaborations.

2.000 books for the Design Library!

Tassilo von Grolman

A generous donation from product designer Tassilo von Grolman has given our design library a new addition! The donation contains around 2.000 books - including rare editions and a large collection of design publications from Japan, which von Grolman acquired at auction during his many travels.
For us, this is a gift of incredible value that is in the best of hands here. The books are currently being catalogued by our librarian and will soon be accessible to the public.

The foundation's own library offers a comprehensive and valuable knowledge platform on all aspects of design and its neighbouring fields. Thanks to continuous updating, in-depth cataloguing and rarities from the collection, e.g. from the 1950s and 1960s, it has become a valuable and appreciated place for experts and design enthusiasts.
